Folks, I've been procrastinating, but I think it's time we had a talk about #TDNE2020… Promoting safe cycling has always been the main aim of the fest and unfortunately, I don't see how we can safely have a thousand people together right now. Given the current restrictions, it's looking like we'll have to cancel Tour De North End this year. ….hey wait …don't cry! C'mon buddy, it'll be ok. Don't worry, TDNE will be back! Who knows, maybe we'll be able to fit in a ride this fall, or maybe we'll just have to wait till next year. Whatever the case may be, we will all ride together again soon. But you don't have to wait for us — the weather is beautiful, and nothing feels better after being cooped up in your house than a nice long bike ride. Even better, join the I Bike Rockford group and get involved to help make Rockford a more bike friendly city. ***** I started this fest ten years ago as a fun way to promote something I love doing, and at the same time, get some businesses in our neighborhood working together. I never imagined that people would respond the way that they have. The goodwill and positive press we've generated for cyclists over the last ten years (whoa! a decade!) has far surpassed anything I thought the fest could be. You've helped us raise thousands of dollars for local charities and cycling groups. You've helped us raise awareness about sharing the road. All I can say is thank you — you're really the ones that make the fest happen.#TDNE takes hundreds of hours of preparation and several dozens of people to make it work. I couldn't have pulled it off without the support of the The Olympic Tavern staff, Kegel's Bicycle Store, New Belgium Brewing, the Rock and Roll Institute, our alderman John Beck (we miss you John), all the other businesses in the Rockford North End — and of course, my mom and dad. It's definitely the most work I put into any event, but it's also the most rewarding. So until we ride again, stay safe out there. Be kind to others, watch out for jerks, and try to keep the rubber side down. Zak [email protected]
